The Sun is My Happy Place
Hi, I’m Brooke! Born and raised in Davenport, Iowa and currently live in Bettendorf, IA. I have a profound love of family and the beach and travel in general. My boys say my favorite son is “the sun”. 😊 Living in the Midwest, I cherished what short time I had with the sun. I found out at the age of 6 that Disney existed (Epcot was being built, if that gives you any hint to my age). That was the first time I saw the beach. I fell in love. I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to do as an adult. I wanted to be by the ocean. Finally, a trip to Mexico at my first All-Inclusive and seeing the ocean since 1986, I knew it was time. It was time to do what I needed to do. I needed to get my education so I could make the dream of travel to happen. I started with my associate’s in accounting and eventually made it through to a master’s degree in business. During that time, I met my husband, Rob, and his two kids. We decided to make it “official” and guess where we got married? Yup, the beach!! We captured the moment in not only a Covid wedding, but a cancelled and replanned wedding of 42 people and still made it in 2020 in Jamaica. Planning and replanning a wedding was not only stressful, I LOVED IT. Now, my husband is a beach lover and soon to be a cruiser as well.
Clearly, living in Iowa we had to improvise with my love of the ocean so growing up on the Muddy Mississippi was the way to do that. Boating, fishing, tubing and floating was and is currently my normal day-to-day life with the family in Iowa for the few months we see heat. Camping (glamping) is another way to keep us Midwesterners busy.
I think travel has been in my blood since birth, but I am making it happen. My mom almost became a “stewardess” back in the day and again 30 years later, but life happened and was unable to take the position with American Airlines.
I have been in the Construction Procurement industry for a bit with many years working on government compliance documents for multiple projects. I spent some years in the Aerospace industry purchasing parts for Lockheed planes and Boeing Jets as well. My end goal: work as I travel for the rest of my life. Why not?
Our bucket list just keeps growing. We have many places to hit but not enough time. The more I learn about a place, I just add it to the list.
